self care in Henderson NV

As the clock strikes midnight on December 31st, millions of us scribble down ambitious New Year’s resolutions—lose weight, hit the gym more, or finally tackle that side hustle. But what if this year, instead of chasing external goals, you turned inward? What if your resolution centered on self-care, nurturing your body, mind, and spirit?

In a world that’s increasingly hectic, prioritizing self-care isn’t just a luxury; it’s essential for long-term well-being. By incorporating practices like regular massage therapy, energy healing, sound healing, skincare routines, and dedicated relaxation time, you can create a resolution that’s sustainable, enjoyable, and truly transformative.

Self-care resolutions stand out because they’re rooted in compassion rather than criticism. They encourage you to listen to your body’s needs, reduce stress, and build resilience against life’s challenges.

According to health experts, consistent self-care can lower cortisol levels, improve sleep, boost mood, and even enhance productivity. So, let’s dive into how you can weave these elements into your 2026 resolution for a year of renewal and radiance.

Start with the Basics: Regular Massage Therapy

One of the most accessible ways to kick off your self-care journey is by committing to regular massage therapy. Whether it’s a Swedish massage for relaxation or deep tissue for muscle relief, massages promote circulation, ease tension, and release endorphins—the body’s natural feel-good chemicals.

To make this part of your resolution, aim for at least one session per month. If budget is a concern, you can make a small investment in self-massage tools like foam rollers and Gua Sha stones. Track your progress in a journal: note how your body feels before and after, and adjust based on what works best. Over time, you’ll notice reduced aches, better posture, and a deeper sense of calm—perfect for countering the daily grind.

Tap into the Subtle: Energy Healing Practices

Energy healing, such as Reiki or chakra balancing, might sound esoteric, but it’s gaining mainstream traction for its ability to address emotional and spiritual blockages. These modalities work on the principle that our bodies have an energy field, and imbalances can lead to physical or mental discomfort.

Incorporate energy healing into your resolution by scheduling sessions with a certified practitioner or learning simple techniques yourself. Start with daily practices like grounding meditations—visualize roots extending from your feet into the earth—or using crystals like amethyst for clarity. Apps like Insight Timer offer guided energy healing sessions for beginners. The goal? To foster inner harmony, release pent-up emotions, and cultivate a positive mindset. Many report feeling lighter and more centered after just a few weeks.

Harmonize Your Vibes: Sound Healing Sessions

Sound healing uses vibrations from instruments such as singing bowls, gongs, and tuning forks to restore balance in the body. It’s based on the idea that sound frequencies can influence our brainwaves, shifting us from stress (beta waves) to relaxation (alpha or theta waves).

For your New Year’s plan, commit to weekly sound baths—either in-person at wellness centers or virtually via platforms like YouTube or Spotify playlists. If you’re adventurous, invest in a small singing bowl for home use. Begin with 10-15 minute sessions, focusing on deep breathing as the sounds wash over you. Benefits include improved sleep, reduced anxiety, and enhanced focus. It’s an effortless way to unwind, especially after a long day, and can be a gateway to mindfulness.

Glow from Within: A Dedicated Skincare Routine

Skincare isn’t just about vanity; it’s a ritual of self-love that nourishes your largest organ and boosts confidence. A consistent routine can combat environmental stressors, promote healthy aging, and provide a moment of mindfulness each day.

Resolve to build a simple, effective regimen: cleanse, treat, moisturize, and protect with sunscreen. Focus on natural ingredients like hyaluronic acid for hydration or vitamin C for brightness. Set aside time morning and evening—perhaps pair it with affirmations in the mirror. For deeper care, add monthly facials or at-home masks. Track changes with photos or a skincare diary to stay motivated. The result? Not only radiant skin but also a reinforced sense of self-worth.

The Art of Doing Nothing: Prioritizing Relaxation

In our always-on culture, true relaxation is revolutionary. It’s about carving out time to recharge without guilt—whether through reading, napping, or simply staring at the clouds.

Make relaxation non-negotiable in your resolution by blocking out “me time” in your calendar, like a weekly tech-free evening or a daily 20-minute bath with essential oils. Techniques like progressive muscle relaxation or aromatherapy can enhance this. Remember, relaxation isn’t laziness; it’s vital for preventing burnout. Studies show it improves creativity, emotional regulation, and overall life satisfaction.

Putting It All Together: Crafting a Sustainable Self-Care Resolution

To turn these ideas into action, start small and specific. Use the SMART framework: Specific (e.g., “One massage per month”), Measurable (track sessions), Achievable (budget-friendly options), Relevant (aligns with your needs), and Time-bound (monthly check-ins). Build a support system—share your goals with friends or join online communities for accountability.

Challenges may arise, like busy schedules or skepticism, but remember: self-care is a practice, not perfection. If you slip, gently redirect without judgment. By year’s end, you’ll likely feel more energized, balanced, and resilient.

This New Year’s, resolve to invest in yourself. Through massage, energy work, sound healing, skincare, and relaxation, you’re not just setting a goal—you’re embracing a lifestyle of kindness toward your own being. Book your self-care ritual today at Zen Body & Skin, Henderson, NV, and may 2026 will be filled with self-love and serenity.

The Remarkable Benefits of Tulsi (Holy Basil): Nature’s Ancient Adaptogen Backed by Modern Research

Tulsi, also known as Holy Basil, is a sacred aromatic herb native to the Indian subcontinent and a member of the mint family. It has been used for over 3,000 years in Ayurvedic medicine for its physical and spiritual benefits.

Tulsi is far more than the fragrant plant you see in Indian courtyards or Hindu altars. Revered for thousands of years in Ayurveda as “The Incomparable One” and “The Queen of Herbs,” tulsi is considered sacred — a living form of the goddess Lakshmi — yet its real power lies in its extraordinary medicinal properties. Modern clinical studies now confirm what traditional healers have known for centuries: Tulsi is one of nature’s most versatile adaptogens.

Benefits of Tusli (Holy Basil)

  • Reduces Stress
  • Improves Mood & Sleep
  • Helps To Regulate Blood Sugar & Cholesterol
  • Supports The Immune System
  • Anti-Inflammatory
  • Strong Antioxidant
  • Supports Respiratory Health
  • May Support Cancer Prevention & Radioprotection
Benefits of Holy Basil

1. A Powerful Adaptogen That Reduces Stress and Improves Mood & Sleep

Tulsi earned the nickname “elixir of life” largely because of its ability to help the body adapt to stress. It modulates cortisol, balances neurotransmitters, and calms the nervous system.

In one study tulsi extract showed significant reductions in stress scores, better sleep quality, and improved mood in adults experiencing high stress. Tulsi is a premier adaptogen comparable to ginseng or ashwagandha, with the added benefit of being gentler and caffeine-free. Many people report feeling calmer and more focused within days of drinking tulsi tea daily.

2. Blood-Sugar and Cholesterol Regulation

Tulsi shows impressive metabolic effects in both animal and human studies. Clinical trials found that holy basil significantly lowered fasting blood glucose and improved lipid profiles in people with metabolic syndrome or type 2 diabetes. These effects appear linked to eugenol, ursolic acid, and other polyphenols that enhance insulin sensitivity and reduce oxidative stress.

3. Immune-System Support and Antimicrobial Action

Tulsi is traditionally used at the first sign of cold or flu — and science backs this up. Human trials demonstrate tulsi leaf extract increases immune markers (natural killer cells, T-helper cells, and interferon-γ) in healthy volunteers. Its essential oils (eugenol, cineole, linalool) exhibit strong antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal activity, even against resistant strains.

During cold-and-flu season, many Ayurvedic practitioners recommend tulsi tea as a first-line remedy.

4. Anti-Inflammatory and Antioxidant Superstar

Chronic inflammation and oxidative stress underlie most modern diseases. Tulsi is rich in rosmarinic acid, apigenin, luteolin, and other flavonoids with potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.

Preclinical and some human evidence suggest tulsi can reduce inflammatory markers and protect against radiation-induced DNA damage. Cleveland Clinic researchers note potential benefits for lowering LDL oxidation and inflammation-related conditions such as arthritis.

5. Respiratory Health

In Ayurveda, tulsi is a go-to herb for coughs, asthma, bronchitis, and allergies. Steam inhalation of tulsi leaves or tulsi tea helps clear congestion and soothe airways. Clinical reviews support its bronchodilatory and anti-allergic properties.

6. Emerging Evidence for Cancer Prevention and Radioprotection

Animal and cell studies are particularly exciting: tulsi and its phytochemicals have prevented chemically induced cancers of the skin, liver, oral cavity, and lungs. They also protect healthy cells during radiation therapy. Human trials are still limited, but the data are promising enough that oncologists in India sometimes recommend tulsi as supportive care.0000

Tulsi can be taken in capsules, in tea infusions, or as a powder. My favorite way to consume tulsi (holy basil) is in Banyan Botanicals Tulsi Tea.

Try Banyan Botanicals Ritual Tulsi Tea Gift Set

To make the most of your ceremony, take the time to become fully present. Bring awareness to your senses, and tune into your breathing. Notice what arises in you as you sit with your tea. You may wish to journal, sit in silence, or share with a friend.

Contraindications For Tulsi

Tulsi is not recommended for those who are pregnant or nursing, or those who are trying to become pregnant. It is also best avoided if you have low blood sugar. If you are taking medications, we recommend speaking with your Ayurvedic practitioner or healthcare provider before trying tulsi.

Tulsi (Holy Basil) For Mind, Body, & Spiritual Health

Tulsi is one of the rare herbs where ancient wisdom and modern clinical evidence converge beautifully. From calming the mind to supporting metabolic and immune health, this humble backyard plant offers profound benefits with virtually no downside for most people. Whether you grow it on your windowsill or sip it as tea, adding tulsi to your daily routine is one of the simplest, most evidence-based ways to upgrade your health naturally.

Massage therapy is often celebrated for its physical benefits, like relieving muscle tension and improving circulation, but its impact on mental and emotional well-being is just as profound. In a fast-paced world where stress, anxiety, and emotional fatigue are common, massage offers a holistic approach to nurturing the mind and spirit. By engaging the body’s natural relaxation mechanisms, massage can reduce stress, alleviate symptoms of anxiety and depression, and foster emotional balance.

  • Reduce Stress & Promote Relaxation
  • Help Alleviate Anxiety & Depression
  • Enhance Emotional Resilience
  • Improve Sleep Quality
  • Support Mindfulness & Body Awareness
  • Complement Other Mind Health Therapies
Massage in Henderson NV and Las Vegas for mental health

1. Reducing Stress and Promoting Relaxation

Stress is a universal experience, and chronic stress can wreak havoc on mental health, leading to burnout, irritability, and even physical ailments. Massage therapy activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which counteracts the body’s stress response. During a massage, the body releases endorphins—natural “feel-good” chemicals—while lowering cortisol levels, the hormone associated with stress. A 2018 study published in Frontiers in Psychiatry found that regular massage significantly reduced cortisol levels in participants, leading to improved mood and reduced stress perception. The tactile stimulation of massage, whether through Swedish, deep tissue, or other techniques, creates a calming effect. The quiet, soothing environment of a massage session also provides a rare opportunity to disconnect from daily pressures, allowing the mind to rest and reset. This intentional pause can be a powerful antidote to the constant mental chatter of modern life.

2. Alleviating Anxiety and Depression

Anxiety and depression are among the most common mental health challenges, affecting millions worldwide. Massage therapy can serve as a complementary tool in managing these conditions. By stimulating the release of serotonin and dopamine—neurotransmitters linked to mood regulation—massage can create a sense of calm and emotional uplift. A 2010 meta-analysis in The Journal of Clinical Psychiatry reviewed studies on massage therapy and found that it consistently reduced symptoms of anxiety and depression across diverse populations. The human touch inherent in massage also plays a critical role. For individuals feeling isolated or emotionally disconnected, the nurturing touch of a skilled therapist can foster a sense of safety and connection. This is particularly valuable for those with anxiety, as the physical grounding of massage can help interrupt cycles of racing thoughts or panic.

3. Enhancing Emotional Resilience

Massage therapy can bolster emotional resilience by helping individuals process and release pent-up emotions. The body often stores emotional tension in the form of physical tightness, particularly in areas like the neck, shoulders, and back. By addressing these physical manifestations, massage can facilitate emotional release. For example, it’s not uncommon for clients to experience unexpected tears or a sense of relief during a session as emotional blockages are released. Techniques like myofascial release or craniosacral therapy are particularly effective for this, as they target the connective tissues and subtle energy systems of the body. These methods can help individuals feel more “in tune” with their emotions, fostering greater self-awareness and emotional clarity.

4. Improving Sleep Quality

Poor sleep is both a symptom and a contributor to mental health struggles. Massage therapy can improve sleep quality by promoting relaxation and reducing physical discomfort that might interfere with rest. Research from the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine (2015) showed that massage therapy improved sleep patterns in individuals with insomnia, particularly those with stress-related sleep disturbances.

Better sleep directly supports mental health by enhancing mood, cognitive function, and emotional regulation. For those grappling with anxiety or depression, a good night’s sleep can make a significant difference in their ability to cope with daily challenges.

5. Supporting Mindfulness and Body Awareness

Massage encourages mindfulness by drawing attention to the body and the present moment. During a session, individuals are invited to focus on the sensations of touch, breathing, and muscle relaxation, which can serve as a form of meditative practice. This heightened body awareness can help individuals recognize and manage emotional triggers more effectively.

For those who struggle with dissociation or feeling “disconnected” from their bodies—common in conditions like PTSD or chronic stress—massage provides a gentle way to reconnect. This grounding effect can foster a sense of empowerment and control, which is crucial for emotional well-being.

6. Complementing Other Mental Health Therapies

Massage therapy is not a standalone cure for mental health conditions, but it complements other therapies, such as a mental health counselor or lifestyle changes. For example, combining massage with cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) or mindfulness practices can amplify the benefits of each. The physical relaxation from massage can make it easier to engage in mental health work, such as processing emotions or challenging negative thought patterns.

To maximize the mental and emotional benefits of massage, consider the following:

Choose the Right Type: Swedish massage is ideal for relaxation, while deep tissue or trigger point therapy may help release chronic tension linked to emotional stress. You may also like to try hypnosis massage, which combines hypnotherapy and massage therapy.

Frequency Matters: Regular sessions (e.g., weekly or biweekly) often yield cumulative benefits for mental health.

Communicate Openly: Share your goals and emotional state with your therapist to ensure a safe, supportive experience.

Facial massage is one of my favorite treatments to perform at Zen Body & Skin in Henderson, NV. Massaging the face enhances both physical and mental well-being, promoting health and beauty in the skin.

Benefits Of Facial Massage

The benefits of facial massage are numerous. Clients love it because it’s not only relaxing, but can ease facial tension and TMJ pain. It can also help bring the natural beauty out in your face by sculpting facial features and promoting vibrant skin.  Massage encourages blood circulation and lymphatic flow, bringing health and vibrancy to the skin.

  • Increased Blood Circulation
  • Increased Lymphatic Drainage
  • Reduce Puffiness So Face Appears More Sculpted
  • Enhances Vibrancy & Health of Skin
  • Reduce TMJ Pain
  • Calms The Nervous System
  • Improved Product Absorption

Improved Blood Circulation For A Glowing Complexion

One of the primary benefits of facial massage is its ability to significantly improve blood circulation. By applying gentle pressure and rhythmic movements to the face, massage stimulates blood flow to the facial muscles and skin. This increased circulation delivers vital nutrients and oxygen to skin cells, promoting cellular regeneration and repair.

The result is a healthier, more radiant complexion that exudes a natural glow. Enhanced blood flow also aids in flushing out toxins, reducing puffiness, and minimizing the appearance of dull or tired skin. Regular facial massage can even help even out skin tone over time, as improved circulation supports a more balanced distribution of melanin.

Lymphatic Drainage & Reduced Puffiness

Facial massage is highly effective in promoting lymphatic drainage, which helps reduce swelling and puffiness. The lymphatic system, responsible for removing waste and excess fluid from tissues, can become sluggish, leading to a bloated or puffy appearance, particularly around the eyes and jawline. Techniques such as gentle tapping, stroking, or kneading during a facial massage encourage the movement of lymph, helping to detoxify the skin and reduce fluid retention. This is especially beneficial for individuals who experience morning puffiness or swelling due to stress, poor diet, or lack of sleep. Over time, consistent lymphatic drainage through massage can contribute to a more sculpted and defined facial contour.

Relaxation & Stress Relief

Beyond its physical benefits, facial massage has profound psychological effects, serving as a powerful tool for stress reduction. The face holds a significant amount of tension, particularly in areas like the jaw, forehead, and temples, where stress-related muscle tightness often manifests. A soothing facial massage activates the parasympathetic nervous system, promoting relaxation and reducing stress hormones like cortisol. This not only feels calming but also helps alleviate symptoms of stress, such as headaches or clenched jaws (often associated with temporomandibular joint disorders, or TMJ). The meditative quality of facial massage, especially when paired with calming essential oils or a serene environment, can enhance mental clarity and emotional well-being, making it a holistic self-care practice.

Anti-Aging & Skin Elesticity

Facial massage is often praised for its anti-aging benefits, as it can help improve skin elasticity and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. By stimulating collagen and elastin production—key proteins responsible for skin firmness and elasticity—regular massage can help maintain a youthful appearance. Techniques like kneading or pinching along the facial contours can tone and lift the skin, minimizing sagging and promoting a firmer texture. Additionally, the increased blood flow from massage supports skin cell turnover, helping to smooth out wrinkles and improve overall skin texture. For those seeking non-invasive anti-aging solutions, facial massage is a natural and effective option.

Improved Product Absorption

Another significant advantage of facial massage is its ability to enhance the absorption of skincare products. When serums, moisturizers, or oils are applied during or after a massage, the increased blood flow and warmed skin allow for better penetration of active ingredients. This means that products like hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, or retinol can work more effectively, delivering their benefits deeper into the skin. Massaging products into the skin also ensures even application, reducing waste and maximizing results. This makes facial massage a practical complement to any skincare routine, amplifying the efficacy of high-quality products.

Muscle Tone & Facial Contouring

Regular facial massage can help tone the facial muscles, which are often underutilized compared to other muscle groups in the body. By engaging these muscles through targeted techniques, such as those used in facial yoga or gua sha (a traditional Chinese massage method using a smooth-edged tool), massage can strengthen and lift the facial structure. This can lead to more defined cheekbones, a sharper jawline, and a reduction in sagging skin. For example, techniques that focus on the masseter muscle (along the jaw) can help alleviate tension and create a more sculpted appearance over time.

Holistic Health Benefits

Facial massage can also have broader health benefits beyond the skin and muscles. For instance, certain techniques stimulate acupressure points on the face, which are believed to correspond to various systems in the body. In traditional practices like Ayurveda or Chinese medicine, facial massage is used to balance energy flow and promote overall health. Additionally, massaging areas like the sinuses can help relieve congestion or sinus pressure, offering relief for those with allergies or colds. The combination of physical touch and intentional relaxation can also improve sleep quality, as the calming effects of massage carry over into better rest.

Experience The Benefits of Facial Massage In Henderson, NV

While a single session can provide immediate glow and relaxation, regular massage yields cumulative benefits like improved skin tone and reduced tension. However, those with certain skin conditions, such as severe acne or rosacea, should consult a dermatologist before starting facial massage to avoid aggravating their skin.

Whether incorporated into a daily skincare routine or enjoyed as a spa treatment, facial massage is a powerful, accessible way to nurture both body and mind, proving that a little touch can go a long way in fostering beauty and balance.

Improving your lymphatic health can have a positive effect on every system and organ in the body. Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) sessions at Zen Body & Skin in Henderson, NV can help move stagnant lymph, reducing puffiness, and chronic pain, promote glowing skin, and help support your overall wellness.

What Is The Lymphatic System?

The lymphatic system is part of your immune system, delivering nutrients to your body while removing harmful substances such as bacteria, viruses, toxins, and abnormal cells. It’s made up of vessels, nodes,  bone marrow, spleen, thymus, adenoids, and tonsils.

Every cell in the body is bathed in lymph and constantly cleans and nourishes us. Because the lymphatic system is connected to every organ and system in the body (including your nervous system, digestive system and neurological system) healthy lymph is a crucial part of feeling healthy, energetic, and vibrant.

When it comes to your immunity and health, the lymphatic system is the unsung hero.

What Are Some Signs Your Lymphatic System Is Struggling?

The wellness world is finally starting to catch on to how important a healthy lymphatic system is. Backed-up lymph can cause a whole host of issues in the body. Think about what happens to a stagnant body of water. It starts to become murky and dirty. Toxins, bacteria, and other harmful substances begin to gather and proliferate. Just like a body of water, lymph needs to move and flow to stay clean and healthy!

When lymph becomes stagnant harmful substances build up and cause inflammation. Inflammation will lead to pain and stiffness. We may notice our face or other areas of the body seem puffy and heavy. We could start to experience a lack of energy and brain fog. We may notice acne breakouts, rashes, or just a lack of vibrancy in the skin. We may feel an increase in allergies and digestive issues.

  • Inflammation & Pain
  • Puffiness
  • Eye bags
  • Stiffness (Especially In The Morning)
  • Brain Fog
  • Lack Of Energy
  • Skin Issues (Acne, Rashes, Psoriasis, Eczema)
  • Poor Digestion (Gas, Bloating, Indigestion, Etc)
  • Consistent Phlegm In Throat
  • Swollen Lymph Nodes
  • Tender Breasts

"The lymphatic system is going to play a role in everything. If you've got a symptom, you can most likely link it to the lymphatic system playing some kind of pivotal role in it."

- Dr. Nickelston, Stop Chasing Pain

10 Ways To Improve Your Lymphatic Health

In today’s world, there is a huge toxic load that is put upon our bodies.  Processed food and a sedative lifestyle are large contributors. But there are also things beyond our control such as surgeries, injuries, and environmental toxins.  Even when we are trying to live a healthy, active life, our lymphatic system often needs some extra help.

Here are 9 ways to improve the flow of lymph. Many of these things you can do from the comfort of your own home and cost little to no money.

  1. Stay Hydrated
  2. Movement
  3. Dr. Nickleston’s Big 6 Lymph Reset
  4. Dry Brushing
  5. Castor Oil Packs
  6. Breath Work
  7. Herbs & Teas
  8. Saunas
  9. Massage Therapy
  10. MLD Treatments
Don’t think you have to do all these things in order to have a healthy lymphatic system. Stay hydrated, keep moving, and pick one or two extra things that resonate with you. Sometimes the smallest changes can make a big difference. And remember, consistency is key!
manual lymphatic drainage

Lymph Will Become Stagnant Without Sufficient Water

Dehydration will inhibit the lymph’s ability to move. It’s no wonder as lymph is made up of about 96% water. If you are planning to receive an MLD treatment, make sure to come well-hydrated so you can achieve the best results.

Keep Moving To Move Your Lymph

The lymphatic system does not have a pump like your circulatory system. It relies on movement. Exercises like rebounding are a great way to pump your lymph. But just taking a brisk walk around the block will get things moving.

The Big 6 Lymph Reset is one of my favorite ways to encourage the movement of lymph. It's quick and easy to remember.

Just a few minutes out of your day each morning can make a huge difference in your lymphatic health.

But don't forget to breath and drink your water!

Dry Brushing To Soften Skin & Increase Flow

Dry brushing, referred to as gharshana in Ayurveda, is an ancient technique used to soften the skin, increase circulation, and encourage lymph flow. The ancient Egyptians pioneered this dry brushing thousands of years ago, and incorporated this into their beauty rituals.

Elevate Your Self-Care Rituals With The Revolutionary Lymph Brush

The lymph brush is one of the tools I’ve incorporated into my manual lymphatic drainage sessions. The brush’s density and pattern are specially designed to grip the skin and target the body’s superficial lymph vessels. Strokes with the lymph brush mimic the passive contractions of the lymph vessels to help move fluid and increase lymphatic flow.

Unlike traditional dry brushes, the lymph brush’s bristles are soft and won’t irritate the skin. This brush is the perfect self-care tool if you are trying to improve your lymphatic health.

Castor Oil Packs To Ease Inflammation

Castor oil packs date back to ancient Egyptians where is was used for medicinal and beauty purposes. It’s hight content of ricinoleic acid is said to help calm inflammation and support healing. Castor oil packs is made from a piece of cloth (ideally organic cotton) that is saturated with castor oil and applied over the abdomen or another area of the body. Castor oil packs are commonly used to improve digestion, relieve constipation, and ease period cramps. It is also believed to support increasing the flow of lymph.

Because castor oil is deeply penetrating so it’s important to choose a high-quality castor oil  that is organic and hexane free.

Deep Breathing To Move Lymph & Calm The Nervous System

Deep breathing assists the lymph by changing the pressure in your abdomen and chest to encourage the movement of lymph back to the circulatory system. During diaphragmatic breating you are engaging your abdominal muscles to compress and stimulate your lymph nodes.

Diaphragmatic breathing also helps relax the body allowing fluids to move more freely.

Sip On This To Support Your Lymph & Digestive Health

Banyan Botanicals detox tea combines the traditional Ayurvedic formula of cumin, coriander, and fennel (CCF tea known for supporting gut health) with gentle lymph movers such as calendula and red clover.

The herbal tea also contains turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, and mint.

Infrared Saunas To Release Blockages

Infrared saunas have been clincally proven to support the lymphatic system. Infrared heat supports the natural detoxification process, opening blockages and increasing lymph flow. Infrared heat is deeply penetrating and can help reduce inflammation in the body.

During my MLD treatments at Zen Body & Skin, I use a crystal infrared mat on my massage table to help you get the most out of your session.

Massage Therapy To Ease Tension

Massage therapy is one of the oldest healing modalities and is well known for it’s wellness benefits. By easing tension and relaxing tight muscles, fluids such as lymph and blood can flow more freely. You may combine massage with an MLD treatment.

MLD Treatments For Prevention & Wellness

Manual lymphatic drainage is a gentle touch that helps open up your lymph collectors and speed up lymphatic flow. It’s a relaxing, rhythmic treatment typically done by a massage therapist or other health care provider. It can help reduce inflammation and pain, boost the immune system, calm the nervous system, reduce cellulite, and ease swelling and puffiness.

“All disease begins in the gut.”

- Hippocrates - The father of modern medicine

Gut health plays a crucial role in the health and appearance of your skin. The connection between the gut and the skin is often referred to as the gut-skin axis. A balanced and healthy gut microbiome can lead to clear, radiant skin, while an imbalance in gut bacteria can manifest as skin issues such as acne, eczema, or psoriasis.

To promote healthy skin, it’s essential to maintain a diverse and thriving gut microbiome through a balanced diet,  probiotics, and prebiotics. Taking care of your gut can lead to a beautiful complexion!

The Skin Is An Organ Of Detoxification

You have several organs of detoxification including the liver, kidneys, and lungs. When one of these organs becomes overwhelmed they look to help from another organ such as the skin. Rashes, bumps, acne, redness on the skin can all be signs your body is overwhelmed with toxins and your skin is helping with the burdon of detoxification.

Although these symptoms may not be pretty, know that your body is doing what it’s supposed to do in an attempt to heal. Symptoms are a way of the body communicating to us something is off balance and needs our attention.

How Poor Digestion Can Lead To Toxic Overload

You’ve heard of the saying “you are what you eat,” Ayurveda has a saying “you are what you can digest.” When food is not digested properly or hangs around in the gut too long it can ferment, cause bacterial overgrowth, and increase the body’s toxic load. This is even true for healthy food if it’s too difficult for your body to digest.

Signs Your Digestion Might Be In Trouble

If you regularly have gas, bloating, indigestion, or feel heavy or tired after every meal this is a sign your digestion is in trouble. Other signs could be poor bowel movements (constipation, diarrhea, undigested food in stool, etc), and a heavy coating on tongue.

In fact, from an Ayurvedic perspective, excessive gas the first sign of disease! Although some gas is normal and natural, excessive gas, especially if its smelly means food is rotting and turning toxic in your digestive tract.
  • Excessive Gas & Bloating
  • Excessive Burping
  • Indigestion
  • Feeling Heavy Or Tired After Every Meal
  • Poor Bowel Movements
  • Heavy Coating On Tongue

What Can Lead To Poor Gut Health?

We live in a world of convenience where food is usually highly processed, and loaded with refined sugar, and unhealthy fats. Although fast and easy meals are convenient for our busy lifestyle it’s often detrimental to our health. Besides poor diet and lifestyle choices other factors such as antibiotics, excessive stress, irregular meal times, eating on the go, eating foods that are difficult to digest, poor food combining, and raw diets, are some of the things that can lead to a stressed digestive system.

How Can Ayurvedic Principles Improve Digestion?

In Ayurveda how you eat is just as important as what you eat. Ayurveda encourages mindful eating and making mealtime sacred. It stresses fully chewing your food, regular meal times, practicing gratitude, and not eating when you are stressed, emotionally charged, too tired or late night eating.

Ayurveda also big on digestive teas, such as CCF (cumin, coriander, and fennel,) and using digestive spices in meals.

Sometimes making the smallest changes to your diet and lifestyle can have a big impact on your gut health. And remember you don’t have to be perfect! Practice the 80/20 rule where you eat well at least 80% of the time, but you allow yourself a little indulgence here and there without guilt!

  • Create A Wellness Morning Routine
  • Practice Mindful Eating
  • Practice Gratitude
  • Prayer Over Food
  • Regular Mealtimes
  • Fully Chewing Food
  • Not Eating When Stressed, Emotional, Or Excessively Tired
  • Avoid Late Night Eating
  • 10 Minute Rest After Eating & Then A Light Walk

  • Spice Up Your Meals
  • Avoid Foods That Cause Gas Or Bloating

Try An Ayurvedic Cleanse To Reboot Your Digestive System

Ayurveda recommends a cleanse twice a year, in the spring and fall. During this time a mono diet is usually eaten such as kitchari (organic white rice and spices) and plenty of digestive teas and sometimes herbal supplements. Ayurvedic cleanses are meant to be gentle on the body using easy to digest foods that allow for the gut to rest and heal itself.

Qi beauty ritual at Zen Body & Skin in Henderson, NV is a holistic skin treatment inspired by Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). It utilizes acupuncture points and magnetic stimulation to rejuvenate and energize the skin.

In TCM, Qi (energy or life force) is crucial for maintaining our health and vitality as we age. It plays a significant role in invigorating collagen, cells, and blood to regenerate and oxygenate the skin. Qi facials aim to rejuvenate your energy and provide your skin with the necessary vitality for promoting youth, health, and vibrancy.

What Happens During A Qi Beauty Ritual?

During a qi beauty facial the skin is first analyzed to create a personalized facial matrix. The skin is cleansed and approximately 1000 gold-plated qi micro magnetic spheres are placed on specific areas of the face. The most popular matrix is the anti-aging which focuses on lifting, adding volume, pigmentation, and targeting acupuncture points to revitalize Qi energy.

The matrix can also be customized for acne, sensitive skin, and lymphatic drainage (detoxing).

The matrix is left on the skin for 25 minutes. During the relaxation period, you may receive a neck, hand, and arm massage, or microcurrent can be performed on the jaw and neck area.

How Does It Work To Restore Skin Vitality?

The gold magnetic beads placed along meridian pathways help to increase cell signaling. The static magnetic fields created on the skin help restore the bio-electric system of the skin. This process excites cellular activity pushing oxygen, respiration, detoxification, and the supply of nutrients to the skin.

Tuning fork therapy at Zen Body & Skin in Henderson, NV is a type of sound therapy. It is also referred to as vibration therapy, and is used to help balance the body’s energy and promote relaxation. You can add this to the end of any massage, facial, or skincare treatment along with other types of sound therapy such as a crystal singing bowl and a Tibetan sound bowl.

Tuning Forks is also frequently used in our hypnosis massage performed by a massage therapist and hypnotherapist.

What Is Tuning Fork Therapy?

Tuning forks are a type of acoustic resonator in the form of a two-pronged metal instrument that produces a specific pitch when struck against a surface.

Tuning forks have been used for centuries as a tool for healing and balancing the body. When the fork is struck, it emits a pure and consistent sound wave that can help to align the body’s energy centers, promote relaxation, and reduce stress.

How Does It Work?

The use of tuning forks is based on the idea that everything in the universe is made up of energy and vibrates at a certain frequency. When our body’s energy centers, or chakras, become blocked or out of balance, it can lead to physical and emotional discomfort. Tuning forks work by creating a resonance that helps to restore the natural vibration of the body’s energy centers, promoting healing and balance.

What Are The Benefits?

Tuning fork therapy produces a pure tone that can help alleviate stress and anxiety, as well as improve circulation and boost the immune system. They can also be used to stimulate specific points on the body, similar to acupressure, to help alleviate pain and tension. Additionally, they can be used to help re-align the body’s chakras, or energy centers, helping to restore balance and vitality. Overall, tuning forks offer a safe, non-invasive, and effective method for promoting physical and emotional well-being.

During a music and sound healing session, the frequencies and vibrations can help to stimulate the brain and promote a sense of well-being.
