Microcurrent (MC) facials offered at Zen Body & Skin in Henderson, NV offer a pain-free natural face-lift. Microcurrent treatments utilize a low-voltage electrical current to energize the facial muscles and skin on a cellular level. Over a series of treatments, the microcurrent helps lift and tone the face creating a more youthful appearance.
Microcurrent is a gentle, non-invasive treatment that works with your body’s own ability to heal and rejuvenate itself. Unlike peels, micro-needling, or lasers, MC does not require skin injury to encourage healing. It’s a very relaxing technique and works well with other holistic modalities such as gua sha.
Microcurrent helps to recharge our cells with energy and work more efficiently by increasing Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP). Cells begin to act younger creating more collagen and elastin. Wrinkles and fine lines become less prominent and sagging skin begins to lift.
You’ll also be “working out” your facial muscles. After a series of sessions, muscles begin to tighten creating a lifting effect on the jawline, cheekbones, and eyebrows.
Microcurrent facial has many benefits for all skin types. Not only is it a powerful anti-aging treatment, but it can also help penetrate water-based products deeper into the skin, and reduce acne by oxygenating the skin.
During treatment, your skin will be cleansed to remove oils. (Oils can dampen the effectiveness of an MC treatment). The skin may undergo a light exfoliation treatment followed by a serum, gel, or other water-based product. The product will help attract the current into the skin and muscles.
There is no pain during the treatment although sometimes if the current is too strong your muscles might twitch or jump (the intensity will be turned down). In general, you won’t feel much more than a slight tingle.
Microcurrent has been used safely and effectively since the 70s. It is FDA approved to treat Bells’ palsy and muscle paralysis. It can be used on all skin types. However, if you have a pacemaker, metal implants, open sores, or severe acne, MC isn’t recommended. Microcurrent has also not been tested on women who are pregnant, therefore it should be avoided.
If you’ve recently had facial fillers or Botox you will likely not benefit from microcurrent.
Micro-current has an accumulative effect. The way to benefit the most is 2-3 treatments a week. Because most people aren’t able to get to the spa that often, an at-home-microcurrent device is recommended.
Microcurrent is safe enough to be used at home. Although at-home beauty devices are often not as powerful as the professional version, they can be great maintenance tools in between your appointments at the spa. I love 7E Wellness’s Microcurrent products and kits. Their MC devices are easy to use and there is plenty of free tutorials to get you started. Julie Lindh also has a handheld Microcurrent tool that is solar-powered. Her magic beauty wand is my favorite for travel as it’s small, portable, and doesn’t need any electricity to work. You really don’t need any training for this one as you just roll it over your face. It’s also great for penetrating products and stimulating lymph and circulation.
The number 1 tip I can give before you arrive at your facial appointment is to come hydrated. (Start the day before and try to avoid dehydrating drinks such as alcohol.)Electricity is attracted to water. If you are dehydrated the treatment won’t be as effective and it will take more sessions to see results.
